Ah life! Life has got in the way of posting to Record Robot. Well,
life mixed with huge amounts of lethargy and laziness, really. I
intend to mix more fiber into my diet so as to be more regular in the
future.
Back in simpler times, life never really got in the way of things,
although laziness and lethargy were surely in abundance. In those
days, there was really nothing to worry about except what Mom was
cooking for dinner and whether or not I could finish it in time to
watch The Uncle Floyd Show on TV. Those that lived in the NYC, New
Jersey or Philadelphia areas during the 70's and 80's may have fond
memories of the comedy/variety show. Each night was a mix of puppets,
parody, piano playing and prodigiously poor production values. I
watched it religiously as a kid. Some of the characters are still
ingrained in my head, like "Hubie Small Lips", which had Floyd wearing
little yellow plastic Mr. Potato Head glasses and pursing his lips
into a small hole in his face while mumbling in a weak, high-pitched
voice. Hoo Hoo, ha ha…I, uh, well, I guess you'd have had to see it.
So, anyway, my head practically imploded in nostalgic ecstasy when I
came across this, the show's only LP, released on Mercury Records in
1983. Sure, skits like "Interview of the Week" are hopelessly dated,
but others, like "The Dull Family" or "Symon Offkey" gave me a hearty
chuckle. "T for Turnpike" or "Deep in the Heart of Jersey" might give
cause for knowing nods from folks that grew up in the Jersey area.
Rounding out the album are some old-time piano favorites that Uncle
Floyd Vivino always played to close out each night's show. Enjoy,
kids.

I still have my Uncle Floyd & Oogie Tee Shirt stashed away somewhere. Used to watch the show after work daily back in the early 80's. Recorded some of the shows on VHS and recently bought a DVD of some great clips. A shame something like that doesn't just go on forever, what a riot. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for this. I remember New Jersey Network offering these as a 'giveaway' if you pledged X amount of dollars to keep The Uncle Floyd Show on the air. I was always hoping I'ld find a copy on a yard sale, but it never happened. This is good enough.
Somewhere around here, I have a note that was sent to me, signed by Mugsy. I was a big fan of the show at the time.

I am one of the guys who got this album as a giveaway for making a donation to the New Jersey Network. I still have the album, and it is still in good condition. Awhile back I digitized it and put it on CD-R. Still listen to it quite often. Bruce Stringbean's (a.k.a. Jimmy Vivino, not Mugsy) "On the Boardwalk" still cracks me up.

Interesting. When I was 8, living in suburban NJ, Floyd looked to me like someone from outer space. Now I see that he looks like half the guys on the L train. I wonder where he is now.

New Jersey Network took my money and never sent me this album - and that was the last time I supported NJN and never will again.
My greatful thanks to this site and to the person who posted Uncle Floyd's album for making good NJN's failed promise - Great album!
